Description

Embark on a full-day tour from Quito to the Quilotoa Lagoon. Visit the Saquisili market, the Maca community, and the Tigua community. Enjoy a hike to the lagoon and take part in optional activities like kayaking and a boat ride. Start your day with a visit to the Saquisili market (if your trip is on a Thursday or the Zumbahua market on Saturday). Admire the variety of colorful roses, Andean fruits, and handicrafts on display. If you are not traveling on these days, stop in the Maca community to see Julian's family. Next, head to the Tigua community, known for its Andean legends and artists who capture images of the mountainous landscape. Make a brief stop at the Toachi Canyon, a geological fault caused by volcanic eruptions. Once you arrive at the Quilotoa Lagoon, begin your hike into the crater. Descend from 3900 meters to 3500 meters to the base of the lake. The path is steep and covered in volcanic material. Take part in optional activities like kayaking or a boat ride. If you prefer, rent a mule to make the hike up more enjoyable. Enjoy lunch and shopping in the community galleries before returning to Quito.
