Description

Walk through the winding streets of Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone, embarking on a journey blending art, culture, and history. Begin at the ruins of San Francisco, and explore the rich architectural and historical tapestry of the first European settlement in the Americas. Learn about the city’s founding, colonial invasions, destructive events, independence, socio-political evolution, and cultural growth. Along the way, see landmarks such as the National Pantheon and end the walk at Puerta del Conde, close to the statue of Francisco Alberto Caamaño Deñó, tying in the April Revolution of 1965. Your tour lead is Gaudy Mercy, a local artist and educator with over 15 years of historical interest, who brings her perspective from the arts (including her hip-hop roots) into the stories. Throughout, enjoy a small group setting (max 6 people) for a more personal experience, with a snack and small souvenir included to wrap up the walk.
