DescriptionThis 4-day tour takes you on a discovery of the most important sights in Quito and the surrounding area. Admire the views of the magnificent landscape of snowcapped mountains and glistening lakes as you journey to the Otavalo market. Explore the sights in the historical center of Quito as well as the Middle of the World monument that divides the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Detailed Itinerary Day 1: Arrival in Quito You will be picked up at the airport and transferred to your hotel in Quito. Day 2: Excursion to Otavalo Market Depart from Quito through the Pan-American North Highway until arriving to Cayambe, where passengers will have the opportunity to taste the delicious “Bizcochos de Cayambe”, a type of cracker or bread baked in a clay oven (greatly paired with local cheese or caramel sauce). Afterwards, you will make a brief stop at “Miralago”, to admire a wonderful view of Lago San Pablo, amazing views. The tour then continues to Otavalo where Otavalenos (natives) set up a market in which a bartering manner of shopping is taken place. The market hosts a variety of different handcrafted items. Passengers may choose between staying longer in Otavalo or go to visit to the leather shops at Cotacachi. On the way to Cotacachi, you will visit a traditional workshop of Andean instruments “Nanda Manachi” located in Peguche. In Cotacachi you have enough time to visit the village, the shops of leather goods and free time for lunch (not included). Return to Quito picking up passengers in Otavalo (spot determined by Gray Line Guide). Day 3: City tour and Equatorial Monument After breakfast you will start a panoramic route through the banking and financial areas, shopping malls, and La Mariscal neighborhood, where most hotels are located. You will then continue towards the historical center of the city where you will visit El Panecillo, San Francisco and La Basilica churches, and Plaza de la Independencia. Walking through the colonial streets you will find the cathedral, the Government’s Palace, and La Compañía Church, where you can admire the decorations and gold altars. You will continue to the northern part of the city, heading up to the Middle of the World monument that divides the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere. Includes entrance to Middle of the World where you can enjoy the cultural experience of the attractions of this privileged place. Day 4: Departure from Quito After breakfast you will transfer to the airport.
