Situated at the headwaters of the Amazon and run by the Huaorani, one of the most isolated ethnic groups on earth, the award winning Huaorani Ecolodge offers a life changing experience.
Huaorani Ecolodge is designed to provide an intimate, harmonious, and environmentally sustainable experience. Staying at the lodge is a way to share time with the Huaorani and experience the richness of their natural environment and their way of life, while creating the least possible impact on the surroundings. The lodge can provide accommodation to up to ten people housed in five comfortable, traditionally built, palm thatched cabins.
Guests will learn how to use a blowgun, climb trees, and smear their face with red achiote (annatto seeds); they will take a two day meander down the Shiripuno river in kayaks or dugout canoes watching tropical birds and monkeys; they will listen to an indigenous leader relate the tribe's fight against oil exploration and, with luck, meet Moi Enomenga, a conservation hero honored by National Geographic and the Buffett Foundation. The Huaorani people are high energy, fun-loving people and they expect their guests to immerse in their culture and customs.
The lodge operates with full packages that include accommodation and meals, activities and tours.
