Description
The tour begins with acclimatization at 2,945 meters (9,662 feet) to help adjust to the altitude and take photographs. Next, you enter Cotopaxi National Park at 3,200 meters (10,499 feet), where a guide explains the unique endemic flora and fauna in the lower park area.
You will visit the Mariscal Sucre Interpretation Center, which features four rooms dedicated to the Cotopaxi ecosystem, offering detailed insights into the park’s environment.
Travel by vehicle to the parking area at 4,600 meters (15,092 feet) before hiking to José Rivas Refuge at 4,864 meters (15,748 feet). This trek allows you to experience high-altitude landscapes safely without needing technical gear or mountaineering experience. The guided trek passes rugged terrain with views of surrounding Andean peaks.
After returning to the parking area, enjoy a walk around Limpiopungo Lagoon. The lagoon reflects the snow-capped mountains in its clear waters and is an ideal spot for photography and birdwatching, with diverse waterfowl and Andean bird species present.
