Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Lago Agrio
Meet in Lago Agrio between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM for private transport to the Cuyabeno Reserve entrance, approximately a 2-hour journey. Check in at the Reserve office and receive a briefing from your naturalist guide before a 2-hour canoe trip down the Cuyabeno River to Piranha Ecolodge. Observe rainforest flora and fauna, including monkeys and birds, depending on conditions.
Arrive at Piranha Ecolodge around 1:30 PM for lunch, followed by room assignment and rest. At 4:30 PM, depart by motorized canoe to explore the waterlogged rainforest with opportunities to see sloths and pink river dolphins. Tour Laguna Grande, swim, and watch the sunset. Return to camp for dinner and a welcome cocktail, then embark on a night excursion to spot caimans, snakes, and nocturnal birds.
Day 2: Eco-Friendly Paddle Canoeing
Breakfast at 7:00 AM. At 8:00 AM, paddle rowboats to the Caimancocha trail for a 3-hour hike through old-growth forest. Your guide will explain Amazon ecology, medicinal plants, and wildlife interactions. Return to the lodge by 1:30 PM for lunch and relaxation.
At 4:30 PM, enjoy a catamaran tour to observe animals such as pink river dolphins and monkeys, then go swimming and watch the sunset. Dinner is at 7:30 PM, followed by a one-hour night hike to search for arachnids, amphibians, and nocturnal reptiles.
Day 3: Birdwatching and Departure
Start at 5:30 AM with a sunrise birdwatching tour. Breakfast is at 8:00 AM before preparing for departure. At 9:30 AM, transfer to Cuyabeno Bridge, where a private bus will take you to Magic Paradise in Lago Agrio. From there, return to Quito by bus or plane, arriving around 2:00 PM.
