Itinerary
Day 1: Travel overnight by public or private bus (approximately 10 hours) from Quito to Puente Cuyabeno. Take a canoe trip down the Cuyabeno River to reach the Cuyabeno Dolphin Lodge. After lunch, visit Laguna Grande for swimming and to watch the sunset. Dinner and a guided night walk follow.
Day 2: After breakfast, hike for three hours in the primary forest to learn about local flora and fauna, including medicinal plants, frogs, insects, and birds. Lunch at the camp. In the afternoon, explore lagoons by canoe through the flooded forest, with opportunities to swim and observe wildlife such as pink dolphins, weather permitting. Return to the lodge for dinner.
Day 3: Visit the Siona Tarabeaya community after breakfast, assist local families in preparing traditional casabe, and learn about their culture and traditions from your guide. Visit a shaman who explains jungle ceremonies. Return to the lodge for dinner, followed by a night canoe expedition to spot caimans.
Day 4: Early morning bird watching, then breakfast. Navigate the Cuyabeno River back to Puente Cuyabeno, enjoying a boxed lunch en route. Transfer to Puente Cuyabeno and return to Quito by public or shuttle bus departing around 11:00 AM.
