Description
Day 1: Depart early from Riobamba and drive to the high Andean landscapes near Arenal. Meet your expert guides and horses at the paramo edge. After a safety briefing, begin a 4–5 hour ride across varied terrain including grassy slopes, volcanic outcrops, and valleys. Along the way, enjoy views of Chimborazo and the surrounding mountains while experiencing rural mountain life and local wildlife.
Arrive in the Andean town of Salinas at midday for lunch and a guided exploration of the community. In the evening, have dinner and rest overnight in local hostel or community accommodation, surrounded by highland tranquility.
Day 2: After breakfast, start another 5-hour horseback ride toward the Chimborazo thermal springs. This section provides new views of the paramo and deepens connection to the region's landscapes and equestrian traditions. Upon reaching the hot springs, take time to soak in the warm volcanic waters maintained by the Río Colorado community. Return by vehicle to Riobamba, stopping for a late lunch at Chimborazo Basecamp Lodge before concluding the tour in town.
