Description

Day 1: Ingapirca, Gualaceo & Chordeleg
Travel along the Pan-American Highway enjoying mountain and village views. Visit Ingapirca, Ecuador’s main Inca and Cañari archaeological site, to explore the Temple of the Sun, terraces, and stone pathways. Learn about traditional Ikat weaving at the José Jiménez Ikat Workshop. Next, visit Chordeleg, known for silver filigree jewelry and artisan crafts, then Gualaceo, a town with lively markets and Andean culture. Lunch includes local dishes with vegetarian and vegan choices before returning to Cuenca.
Day 2: Cajas National Park
Drive to Cajas National Park, just outside Cuenca. Hike the Toreadora Lagoon area through páramo grasslands, glacial lakes, and Polylepis forests, observing unique high-altitude ecosystems. After lunch featuring fresh trout and Andean specialties, visit Llaviuco Lagoon, a cloud forest lake known for birdlife, with a gentle walk around the shore before returning to Cuenca.
