Description

Begin your adventure with a drive from Puerto Villamil toward the highlands of Isabela Island. As you ascend, watch the landscape transform from coastal scenery to lush green forests shaped by volcanic activity and humid highland ecosystems. Make your first stop at Campo Duro, a family-owned ranch dedicated to the conservation of the Galápagos giant tortoise. Walk through open areas where tortoises roam freely, allowing you to observe their behavior up close and learn about their biology, lifecycle, and ongoing conservation efforts. Continue with a guided walk toward the Sucre Caves, one of the island’s most interesting geological sites. These caves were created by ancient lava tubes, leaving behind impressive tunnels and formations. As you walk through the surrounding forest, encounter endemic vegetation unique to Isabela, volcanic textures, and the natural quiet of the highlands. Finally, visit El Mango Viewpoint, located in a traditional agricultural area where mango trees were introduced many years ago. From this elevated viewpoint, enjoy sweeping panoramic views of southern Isabela and, on clear days, the nearby islands of Floreana and Santa Cruz. It’s an ideal spot for photography and a peaceful moment surrounded by nature. After taking in the scenery, return to Puerto Villamil with new knowledge and appreciation for the geology, wildlife, and culture of Isabela Island.
