Tour Description
Otavalo, located 86 km north of Quito in Imbabura Province, is known for its indigenous handicraft market and scenic surroundings including mountains, lakes, rivers, and springs. The town offers a cultural and natural experience favored by travelers.
The tour departs at 8:00 a.m. from your hotel in Quito via the Pan-American Highway, passing through diverse communities and farmland. The first stop is the Pisque River viewpoint, where you can see snow-capped Cayambe (5,790 m) and Cotopaxi (5,890 m) volcanoes. You'll also observe large rose plantations and fertile fields.
Next is the San Pablo Lake viewpoint at the foothills of Imbabura Volcano (4,630 m). Then you arrive at Otavalo’s Indian Market, known as Plaza de Ponchos, where you have time to explore and shop for genuine indigenous crafts.
After lunch, the tour continues to Cotacachi village, recognized as Ecuador’s music capital and famed for fine leather goods sold in small local shops. Before returning to Quito, you visit Cuicocha crater lake nestled in Cotacachi Volcano (4,944 m).
The tour concludes with arrival back in Quito around 5:00 p.m.
