Hacienda San Agustín de Callo

77 km south of Quito stands the beautiful colonial Hacienda of San Agustín de Callo, with the magnificent Cotopaxi volcano in the background. Built on the site of an Inca palace, this working farm offers an unrivaled glimpse into Ecuador's rich and colorful past. Since the 15th century San Agustin de Callo has served as an Inca fortress, an Augustinian convent, and as a temporary home for the French Geodesic Mission. The house has received several illustrious guests. It was built using the vestiges of the Inca construction wich can be seen on walls and floors. Llamas roaming around the place provide fun for all ages.

Its location within the Avenue of the Volcanoes, its architectural blend of unusual styles, and its archaeological value contribute to make of San Agustin a unique place to visit.
