Description
Get a taste of wonderful Ecuadorian cuisine with a food tour that will take you to taste unique fruits from the Andes, a unique cinammon drink, empanadas, and more. As you explore the unique and historic old town of Quito (Centro Historico) and taste delicious foods, your local tour guide will share the rich history of this unique city, the first UNESCO World Heritage City with the best preserved historical center. First, get a cup of Ecuadorian coffee, internationally recognized for its high-quality beans! Then explore a monastery from 1877 where you will discover the best-kept secrets of the 'Agustinas Nuns' (yes, a monastery for nuns!) and taste a delicious, special recipe biscuit made by them. There, you will also enjoy tasting different tropical fruits unique to the Tropical Andes. After experiencing this exclusive visit to the monastery, we proceed to an Ecuadorian restaurant where you will taste authentic empanadas and a traditional cinammon hot drink called 'canelazo', an Ecuadorian favorite. Quito natives love to have this drink during certain festivities! Then, head to the popular and historic Plaza Grande where you will stop to do mouth-watering, award winning Ecuadorian dark chocolate tasting! After this unique sensory experience you will pass by and learn about an amazing Cathedral, the Presidential Palace, and the Archbishop's residence, where you will also taste a unique type of ice cream made in a copper pot, the famous 'helado de paila'. Finally, learn about the importance of lunch in Latin America as the main meal of the day by ending the tour with a traditional Ecuadorian three course set menu! The meeting point for the food tour is the entrance/exit to the San Francisco Metro Station located in the heart of the old town. The food tour will end at the restaurant Runa Tulpa Andina also in the old town. What you will need to bring for the tour: sunscreen, a hat, water, a light jacket and an appetite to taste new things!Includes
