El Otorongo (Cañari word meaning jaguar) is an Art Gallery and a Cafe all in one place. There you can have a fun and relaxed time with friends, have a bite and coffee or drinks, while observing beautiful art pieces.
El Otorongo exhibits and sells the Peña Collection, hand-made utilitarian items and accessories, like leather purses and computer bags, among others, decorated with designs inspired by Ecuadorian pre-Columbian pieces and petroglyphs, and by the 'chola cuencana' (native woman from Cuenca) folklor as well. They also have exhibits of a variety of forms of art and handicrafts, beautiful pieces made by local artists.
The specialty of the Cafe are the 'tamales' a la Otorongo, made with different local ingredients like quinua, zambo, and mote. They also have home-made fruit ice-cream and other delicious treats.
