Museo Casa del Alabado
Ecuador
Casa del Alabado's home is an antique colonial house of 1671 which was remodeled to present the exhibits in an avant-garde minimalist setting, bringing out each piece to be admired in all its splendor. And this is not the only feature that makes Casa del Alabado different and unique; unlike other archaeological museums, the exhibition is organized not chronologically but according to the Andean cosmovision: like the Universe, it is divided in Infraworld, Middleworld and Supraworld. There is also a special section known as "Joyas de la Casa del Alabado" ("Jewels of Casa del Alabado"), where only a few pieces, magnificent works of art that stand out above the rest, are kept together.
Around 5,000 pieces belonging to almost all of the cultures that inhabited what is nowadays Ecuador, since over 7,000 years ago, tell visitors about theancient people's daily life, beliefs and ideas. The pieces are not only interesting in this way but they are also beautiful pieces of art.
So you can visit with no hurry, you can take breaks sitting in the tranquil central patio's cafeteria enjoying a coffee or a bite. The museum shop has handicrafts from the different regions of the country.
