Hosteria La Ciénega
Ecuador
Hosteria La Cienega is one of Ecuador's oldest colonial haciendas. It is situated near the slopes of the majestic Cotopaxi volcano and its National Park. This mansion has served as setting to important scientific, social, and political events and has lodged illustrious figures of the country's history, hence its aura of grandeur. Its two-meter thick volcanic stone walls and strong structure remained intact in the 1742 eruption of the Cotopaxi, while most of the surrounding towns were destroyed. Amidst the breath-taking natural beauty of the landscape and rich folklore of Ecuador's indigenous people, La Cienega is an unforgettable souvenir of a visit to the Andes.
