The Magic Bean
Ecuador
This modest little restaurant is perfect for a quick, no nonsense bite to eat. It's not the most glamorous place in Ecuador, but not every dining experience has to be a Michelin-certified one.
The setting is very pleasant and there are two cosy dining rooms, plus some welcome outdoor tables. Not only this, there is also a hostel adjoined to the place, so if you fill yourself up too much you can hire a bed and sleep it off.
The cuisine is simple but scrumptious, and one of the highlights from the basic menu is the selection of pancakes. However, these do come with a warning: they are absolutely enormous! Other options, which could be deemed to be slightly more healthy, are the salads, which are made with organic lettuce and particularly good - the place used to be a vegetarian restaurant, and is still of the leafy persuasion.
You can also choose between French toast, a variety of sandwiches, bagels, omelettes, locally-caught trout (grilled) and filet mignon. If you're still stuck for choice, the restaurant also offers delicious kebabs, which include chicken, steak, pork and shrimp.
You can wash all of this down with freshly brewed coffee or a healthy fresh-fruit drink.
For the kids there is a children's menu, and there is also free WIFI.
