Museo Camilo Egas
Ecuador
This museum is set in a restored 17th century colonial home in downtown Quito. Its permanent exhibition shows the works of Camilo Egas, a renowned Ecuadorian painter of the beginning of the twentieth century who played an important part, together with Oswaldo Guayasamín, in the creation of the indigenist movement. His paintings depict characters and themes related to the indigenous peoples of the Andes.
The museum also promotes young contemporary artists and their projects by housing temporary exhibitions of their works.
The program called "Experience Camilo Egas" receives students with theory and hands-on activities around the maestro's and the temporary exhibitions' artwork, aiming to stimulate creativity and educate in art.
Admission is free.
